바림은 전라도 광주에 위치한 구 고시원을 그대로 살린 미디어 공간, 작업실, 오픈예술지구. 2014년 봄 오픈예정이며, 추상적인 예술장르부터 신체적인 예술장르까지 모두 아우른다.

기획서, 제안서 모집

목적:

고시원이라는 현대적 주거공간을, 실제 삶의 공간과 동시대의 문화, 예술이 만나는 곳으로 해석하고, 현재의 광주를 살아나가는 많은 사람들과 더욱 다양한 교류를 위함에 그 목적을 둔다.

가능한 장르는 반드시 예술에 국한되지 않으며, 미술, 공연, 음악, 영화, 건축, 평론 부 터 샵, 스튜디오, 녹음실, 연습실, 회의실 등 다양하다. 공간의 특정성을 최대한 살려 레지던스나 전시, 공연, 상영, 워크샵, 오픈 스튜디오, 축제, 마켓, 발표회 등 다양한 형식의 발표와 공유가 가능하다.

공간활용:

참가자들은 바림의 공간 구석구석을 이용해 작업공간, 스튜디오, 발표공간, 교류공간, 지역사회와 연계하는 공간 등으로 쓸 수 있다. 화이트큐브공간, 고시원의 빈 방, 옥상, 지하실등 협의하에 자유롭게 장소를 사용할 수 있다. 또한 기획서에 따라 고시원 공간을 자는곳, 일하는곳, 전시하는곳, 공연하는 곳등 자유롭게 공간자체를 변화시켜가며 사용할 수 있다. 현재는 고시원이던 상태가 그대로 보존되어 있다.

또한 주변의 대안학교의 학생들과 함께하는 작업, 해외작가들과의 공동작업, 워크샵 등 지역사회와의 다양한 연계도 가능하다.

지원방법:

예술가, 큐레이터, 연구가, 음악가, 안무가, 퍼포머, 평론가 등 바림에서 장소특정적인 작품을 만들고 싶은 모든 장르의 문화예술분야.

스스로 작품을 제안하고, 그것을 만들어내는 과정에 책임을 질 수 있으며, 바림의 특수한 환경에 새로운 관점을 제시할 수 있는 작품.

Residency/Proposal (ENG)

PURPOSE

- Goshiwon, contemporary living space, becomes a space where the real life and contemporary culture/art encounter.

- Not to aim an artist-in-residence strictly programmed by Barim, but to aim a residency proposed and curated by artists themselves.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

- Participants can use any place as their studios. We have a white cube, Goshiwon rooms, roof, basement, and more. Particiaptns can sleep/work/exhibit/screen/perform in Goshiwon with much freedom to renovate the whole space. Currently the space is kept as same as Goshiwon-period. It is also possible to work with high school students, collaborate with local artists, do workshops, and other various ways to reach to the community.

SUPPORT

- Unfortunately, no traveling budget will be offered because we are a small artist-run space. When it comes to a bigger project like collective&collective or group&group projects, we can apply for funds together if you know any good resources. But those budgets are not secured at the moment.

- Also materials and living expenses are up to artists. But depending on the project, we can make a project which can fundraise. (such as participatory workshop with audience, tickets, goods, books, and etc) But to note, this is not always possible. We have a bit of our in-studio budget which will only cover basic exhibition/performance (flyers, posters, and etc).

- We can offer accommodation for artists. A part of Goshiwon will be renovated as a guesthouse. A single small room will be offered to a participant with shared bathroom and kitchen.

APPLICATION GUIDELINE AND CRITERIA

- We are looking for artists/curators/researchers/musicians/choreographers/performers/critics who want to create a site specific works in BARIM.

- We do not have specific dates nor strict programs for the residency, but we are looking for artists/curators/researchers/musicians/choreographers/performers/critics who are able to make a proposal and responsible in producing a work, bringing a new perspective to our unique space.

Proposal (with project description, date, duration, and outcomes) :  We are not a “traditional white cube” setting, so we encourage artists to find their own perspective on our unique space rather than just flat installation or exhibition. Barim prefers a proposal which is site-specific (especially around Goshiwon rooms, if possible). So if you can additionally mention on your proposal which space you might be interested in to make or show works (can be multiple), how to utilize specific spaces (like small rooms, roof, etc), or how your work is related to our unique space, that will help us to decide. It is not mandatory to use Goshiwon rooms, but your residency has to be related to something about our space. You can surely collaborate with local artists or high school students that we have a connection with. If you want to do so, please specify what kind of collaboration you want to do, and how the outcome will be shown to the audience in relation to our space.
