Born in Shanghai in 1958. Liu Yi graduated from the Art Department of East China Normal University and the Advanced Watercolor Program of China Academy of Art. He works for the Art and Design College in Shanghai Institute of Technology as a teacher. He used to be the vice chairman of Shanghai Watercolor Research Society and the member of China Artists Association and China Watercolor Artists Association and director of the Artistic Department of Xu Beihong Art Research Association. He was invited to Konstanz University for lecture and solo art exhibition. His work Water Running with Sky won a top award of the Seventh National Exhibition of Fine Arts. His Reflection won a top award of China Watercolor Painting Exhibition. His Resting won a top award of China Watercolor Painting Exhibition. His WaterVeniceSuzhou was exhibited on the Eighth National Exhibition of Fine Arts. His Water Organ won a top award of China Watercolor Painting Exhibition. His Autumn Song was exhibited on the Ninth National Exhibition of Fine Arts. His Whispering won the Silver Award of the Sixth National Watercolor and Gouache Painting Exhibition. His Holy Music won the Recognition Award of the Tenth National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He was invited to attend a joint exhibition of Tao ShihuLiu Shouxiang and Liu Yi in Shanghai Art Museum in 1996.
