Danny Waygood
I trained for four years at Cambridge and Chelsea schools of art in England, qualifying in Fine Arts (Oil painting).
I had a traditional English art-school training at the beginning of the 1960s. In those days we had to learn to draw for two years before starting to paint. Consequently drawing has always been a strong feature in my work.
I am equally at ease with watercolours and oil paint. I always carry my camera in order to capture a fleeting moment - of light, of movement, clouds, people or animals. I love to work outside in the sunshine, but also work in my studio from sketches or photographs. The subjects are varied, from large landscapes to small details such as a section of a dry stone wall or a flock of sheep. Although a figurative painter, I enjoy the abstract patterns found in nature: shadows, water, rocks etc. and do most of my work in France where I enjoy the strong contrast of sun and shade. I am curently working on pictures of the Sahara.
